By operating a job application tracking tool and writing a career blog, I get to explore many aspects of the job search. But even with all the interviews, research, and writing, it’s still easy to lose touch with the people on the ground – the job seekers in the trenches, applying for jobs every day, just trying to get a break. Like most things, the more recent one’s experience, the better one’s perspective – and it’d been a while since I applied for a job.
Recently though, I had the chance to step into my readers’ shoes and wanted to share my experience applying and interviewing for a job. In an effort to continue writing short(er) posts, I’ll break the story into several vignettes. The next one will provide a bit of background on the job and how I approached the application in general, what worked and what didn’t. After that I’ll get into specifics regarding tactics and other details.
Even though I write about it all the time, I’d been personally quite removed from the application process (thankfully), so it was good to get a reminder of how dreadful applying for jobs can be. Hopefully you find it interesting and helpful.
More to come.
